Four girls from everywhere.
A school in the middle of somewhere.
A city at the edge of anywhere.
A school story like you'll find nowhere else.

The Extras is a modern take on a classic boarding school story, a slice-of-life comedy / fantasy about the everyday adventures of growing up. Located in the City, the School of Saints Java and Hellbender is as much a character in the story as the girls from almost everywhere who live and learn there, and just as full of secrets.

Katie felt that this page needed something different, so she went with something different. I think the results are stunning.

We introduce here Ms. Greene, a tutor. She is one of the City people known alternately as Easterners or Wildlings; we would call them "modern human cousins." Ms. Greene is what some people would call Denisovan, who in our world were a middle paleolithic contemporary of both Neanderthal and modern humans.

Patience, for her part, can't forget her experience with the Moo Cream 3000.

It was a lot of fun watching her put it together. Five more pages in this sequence, and then soon after you'll have ANOTHER Patience-centric story. I'm happy to finally be getting to these- she's a lot of fun!
Also mysterious...

I love the art style and how much story you guys packed on the page. Well done.

My one concern is that the type isn't very legible. It's hard to read words that small on a screen.

Yeah, since it's double-wide it displays at something like 50% smaller. It's a pain but you can try zooming on individual panels... and of course it'll look great when it's in print!

I had to open the image in a new tab, click to get it at full size, then, well, I was grateful my trackball has a horizontal scrolling feature. Opening it up like that sadly spoils the layout, though not entirely. By scrolling back and forth, I was able to get a sense of the pretty middle panel. :)

I have to say, aside from all the other great things about this page, that I'm totally blown away by those bricks!

Katie says that it's an asset in Clip Studio, laid down in perspective, with "grunge" added manually. I don't understand, but hopefully those are the correct code words to let you know how she does it... :-)

It's a lot of fun to have a really openly expressive character like her!

Oooh a double! So nice! The middle frame is especially abslolutely gorgeous. Also Patience is precious and must be protected at all costs. Don't you dare make these words backfire at me later.

(Skill of tute... I'll cry)

Patience is pretty resilient, all things considered, so she'll probably be fine!
She still isn't sure what A Mish is, though.

A contrast I find fascinating is between Patience and Nita's experiences and reactions. They both are facing so many new things that expand their view of the world, and yet Patience has abided things (hairdryers excepted) much more readily than Nita, who was in denial and then frustrated.

Good observation! Part of it is, of course, individual personalities and reactions. Part of it was Nita's mental wall. But a bigger part is how they perceive their place here and its purpose- is it just a place they've gone to, or have they, themselves, undergone a fundamental change?

Stunning is a perfect way to describe this page. I love Patience and her personality.
